A new, experienced voice for Monona.
My Family.
My family and I live in Frost Woods on Ridgewood Ave. Nichole is not just my wife, she’s my business partner. My son Joey is in 4th grade and is a proud Winnequah Owl. Salvatore is our oldest and is in 7th grade at Glacial Drumlin. We enjoy biking, camping with scouts and as a family, and all kinds of outdoor activities. And food. Good food.
My Business.
We founded Salvatore’s Tomato Pies in 2011, with a dream to bring the type of pizza I grew up with, the Tomato Pie, to Wisconsin. When Nichole and I met our very first conversation was about pizza, and how we’d like to open our own restaurant. In a little less than ten years we’ve grown our company to 4 locations, have been recognized as a farm to table leader, and have won many awards. We focus on sustainability, living wages, offer health insurance and provide employees with paid time off, all things that aren’t very common in our industry.
My History.
I was born in Trenton, NJ. My grandparents were Italian immigrants from Loreto Di Aprutino. Entrepreneurial spirit runs in our blood as my grandfather founded one of Trentons first modern full-service grocery stores after spending time working in coal mines in Pennsylvania. My father and his brothers all worked in the food business. They owned bakeries, restaurants, delis, food distributors and more. I moved to Madison in 1996 and in 1999 bought a home just across from Monona in the newly renamed Lakepoint Neighborhood. Seeing continuing challenges in the neighborhood, I ran for and was elected as the homeowners association president. This led to being appointed to City Committees by two mayors, and ultimately being appointed to the Dane County Board of Supervisors to fill a vacancy while still in my twenties. I worked closely with Alders, the CDA, Builder, Neighborhood Stakeholders and the South District Police command staff to successfully address neighborhood concerns. I’m proud to have lived in one of Madison’s most diverse neighborhoods for over 12 years.
